Generali and Ryan Specialty Announce Key Leadership Changes in Global Operations

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial and Ryan Specialty announce key leadership changes to drive transformation and growth in their respective divisions.

Leadership Changes at Generali Global Corporate & Commercial

Generali Global Corporate & Commercial has announced key personnel appointments aimed at reshaping its Mediterranean and Latin American operations.

Patricia Puerta is set to lead this initiative as the organization makes strides toward its new goals.

On November 1, 2024, GC&C will introduce a newly formed unit dedicated to Business Transformation & Technical Excellence, under the leadership of Jose Maria Romero de Tejada.

Reporting directly to Puerta, Romero de Tejada’s mission will be to drive business transformation and progress strategic initiatives across multiple countries and functions in the region.

Moreover, starting December 2, 2024, Mikel Bermejo will step into the role of head of Underwriting.

Also reporting to Puerta, Bermejo brings with him a wealth of experience in corporate insurance.

Romero de Tejada boasts over 13 years of experience within the insurance industry, primarily with Generali.

His diverse background encompasses civil engineering underwriting, the enhancement of operational efficiencies, and technical improvements across various roles.

Most recently, he held senior leadership positions in GC&C’s Mediterranean & Latin American sectors, focusing on Claims and Operations & IT.

His qualifications include advanced degrees in both Insurance Business Management and Civil Engineering, supplemented by an executive MBA.

Meanwhile, Bermejo has an impressive track record in underwriting and risk management, having previously served as the head of Property Iberia at QBE Europe in Madrid.

There, he managed a profitable portfolio while leading a diverse team.

His international experience includes the development of underwriting strategies for Europe, complemented by academic expertise in business administration and project management.

Transformations at Ryan Specialty’s Financial Lines Division

In a noteworthy shift, Ryan Specialty, headquartered in Chicago, is revamping leadership within its international financial lines division, Ryan Financial Lines (RFL).

These changes will become effective on January 1, 2025.

Richard Winborn will transition into the role of president, operating out of London.

His background is distinguished by his previous leadership of Themis, a division of Innovisk Capital Partners, which was recently integrated into Ryan Specialty.

Winborn’s focus moving forward will be on facilitating international growth while enhancing retail operations throughout the United States.

In an expanded role, Patrick Mitchell, who previously served as the chief underwriting officer at RFL, will now also take on the responsibilities of chief operating officer.

Based in New York City, he joined RFL in May 2024, bringing with him 20 years of underwriting and operational expertise.

His notable past roles include significant positions in executive risks at Coalition, Inc., and management liability at Hiscox USA.

RFL made its debut in December 2023 through the consolidation of multiple operations, including EmergIn Risk, StartPoint, Ryan Specialty Nordics, and Capital Bay, among three professional liability programs under the Ryan Specialty National Programs umbrella.

Since its inception, Ryan Specialty Underwriting Managers has actively pursued growth through key acquisitions, including Geo Europe and Castel NAPL, along with various financial lines underwriting divisions from Innovisk.

Strategic Enhancements for Future Success

In essence, both Generali and Ryan Specialty are strategically enhancing their leadership structures to better position themselves for the future in a dynamic and competitive landscape.
